A lag site is useful for object restores but not forest restores. Does that mean a lag site is of no use? Not at all!

I have used a lag site for object recovery for many years and found it to be immensely useful. Does it come with an inherent overhead and cost - yes, of course. We all perform cost / benefit and risk analyses tho, don't we???

[AD] Recovery comes in different flavours:

1. Objects

2. Devices [DCs]

3. Forest / domain

Each of the above 3 flavours requires a solution. Each solution may only be relevant to one flavour.

In a nutshell - horses for courses :)

All the more reason to start with agnostic, meaningless domain names. if the company changes in any way, then the domain names remain unaffected.

I like to use words which appear to have meaning but actually do not (and are not registered to a company either, of course!)

that makes sense. I often see similar (multipel logical / single physical) to guard against NTFS corruption issues on large file servers.

I seem to recall that way back when, one of the considerations around logical partitioning, regardless of your spindle arrangement, was to mitigate for Sysvol FRS problems under high delta rates on NTFS journalling. I know the default journal sizes got a considerable boost in a service pack to address some of this.

where there is a single RAID set, what is the advantage of splitting this in to different volumes, D: & E:, and balancing the AD files across them?

Is it to have consistent file locations between the servers if different disk configurations (i.e. logs are always on E:).
